Redmi Note 17: Xiaomi’s Giant Is Official

Xiaomi has just officially unveiled its latest smartphone in China, and it looks like nothing the brand has offered so far. By combining outsized dimensions with the endurance of a power bank, the Redmi Note 17 well and truly blurs the lines.

Here’s everything you need to know about this game-changing model, which is set to redefine the entry-level segment.

An unprecedented 7-inch OLED screen

The Redmi Note 17 stands out immediately for its sheer size. Xiaomi has fitted it with a huge flat 7-inch OLED panel, the largest ever seen on a device in the Redmi line-up. That XXL diagonal turns the phone into a genuine e-reader and pocket console, without sacrificing display quality along the way:

  • Resolution: FHD+ (2396 x 1080 pixels).
  • Smoothness: Adaptive refresh rate of 120 Hz.
  • Brightness: An impressive peak of 1,800 nits to stay readable under blazing sunshine.

The panel also houses an under-display fingerprint sensor, Gorilla Glass 7i protection and the Wet Touch 2.0 system for optimal use with damp hands.

A monster 8,000 mAh battery

To feed a screen that size, Xiaomi hasn’t done things by halves. The Redmi Note 17 packs a titanic 8,000 mAh battery built on high-density Jinshajiang technology. According to the manufacturer’s own testing, that energy reserve delivers 2.33 days of typical use on a single charge.

Longevity is also central to the design: the battery is engineered to retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 full charge and discharge cycles.

The phone supports 45W wired Fast Charging. Better still, its 22.5W reverse charging function lets it power other devices and accessories.

Performance, AI and HyperOS 3

Under the bonnet, the focus is squarely on energy efficiency. The Redmi Note 17 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 platform built on a 4 nm process. The chip is paired with up to 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage (expandable up to 2 TB via microSD). The camera setup sticks to the essentials, with a 50 MP main sensor on the back and an 8 MP module on the front.

It’s on the software side that the phone springs the biggest surprise. Running the new HyperOS 3 interface (based on Android 16), it rolls out ground-breaking security tools driven by an on-device AI model:

  • Predictive anti-fraud: An algorithm able to identify and block fraudulent calls in real time based on known scam scenarios.
  • Deepfake detection: An automatic analysis tool that warns the user if it detects a face-replacement filter (face-swap) during an incoming video call.

The chassis carries IP65 water-resistance certification and includes an infrared blaster as well as a multifunction NFC chip.

An aggressive price list

Officially launched in China in Black, Clear Water Green and Meteor Purple, the Redmi Note 17 confirms just how aggressive the brand’s pricing remains:

  • The 6 GB + 128 GB version is listed at 1,299 yuan (around €180 excluding tax).
  • The top 8 GB + 256 GB version comes in at 1,599 yuan (around €220 excluding tax).

With its giant screen and record-breaking battery life, the Redmi Note 17 immediately makes itself an obvious pick for fans of multimedia on the move.
