On the other, the mid-range demands sacrifices that are often far too painful on the camera side or in build quality. It is precisely in that strategic gap that the new Oppo Find X9s lands.

Unboxing: a complete box, and that feels good in 2026

Before we get to the design, a word about the packaging. While the industry giants are busy stripping their boxes of accessories in the name of the environment, Oppo still delivers a complete user experience from the moment you open the lid.

Inside the Oppo Find X9s box you will find:

Design, ergonomics and durability: the king of one-handed use

Launched after the Pro and Ultra versions, the Oppo Find X9s stands out immediately thanks to its silhouette. It is officially the lightest and thinnest phone in the X9 range, tipping the scales at 202 grams with notably contained dimensions of 157 x 73.9 x 7.9 mm. At a time when the market is saturated with massive, heavy “phablets” — a format that is starting to wear thin for a share of users — the Find X9s offers a refreshingly compact alternative.

The lines are resolutely modern: subtly rounded corners that never dig into your palm, paired with perfectly straight, flat side rails that deliver an excellent grip. The back of the device is a marvel of visual engineering. Our review unit, in the Sunset Orange colour, has a matt satin finish that looks superb. Visually it is a sophisticated gradient: a deep, metallic coppery orange along the lower portion that gradually fades into lighter silvery reflections near the camera island. As well as being particularly elegant, this surface treatment has the huge advantage of being completely immune to fingerprints.

Robustness has not been sacrificed on the altar of compactness. The Oppo Find X9s carries an extremely rare dual water and dust resistance rating: IP68 and IP69. While IP68 guarantees prolonged immersion in water, IP69 certifies that the phone can withstand high-pressure, high-temperature water jets (think industrial cleaning). Oppo also highlights an SGS Premium Performance 5-Star certification for impact and drop resistance. We did not go so far as to throw the phone onto concrete, but the combination of a reinforced chassis and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i up front brings real peace of mind. After two weeks of hard, careless use, the screen and back remained flawless.

In terms of physical ergonomics, the Find X9s shakes up a few habits. The right-hand edge houses the usual power button and volume rocker. The real novelty sits on the left edge: the Snap Key. This is a programmable physical button that acts as a shortcut. You can assign it a quick action from a predefined list in the settings: instantly firing up the torch, opening the camera, launching the voice recorder or a specific app. The list of configurable actions is still a little limited by the software, but its everyday usefulness is undeniable.

Finally, the rear camera module adopts a square format offset to the upper left. The integration was designed so that the phone does not wobble too much when placed face up on a table. Even though it retains a slight 3-degree tilt relative to the horizontal because of the raised optics, the device stays stable under your fingers. The bottom edge groups the USB-C port, the dual-SIM tray and the main speaker grille.

Display: a bright 1.5K LTPS AMOLED panel calibrated for creators

The Oppo Find X9s is built around a 6.59-inch LTPS AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1,256 x 2,780 pixels (commonly referred to as 1.5K). That technical choice delivers an excellent pixel density for reading and fine detail while drawing less power than a full QHD+ panel.

Oppo ticks every box on the high-end checklist for 2026:

• Adaptive smoothness: a refresh rate reaching 120 Hz that adjusts dynamically to on-screen content to preserve battery life.
• Record brightness: a peak brightness quoted at 3,600 nits, guaranteeing absolute legibility even in direct sunlight outdoors.
• Colour accuracy: 10-bit colour depth and 100% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage, a serious argument for photographers and content creators who need ultra-reliable colour feedback when editing images on the move.

At the top of the screen, a tiny centred punch-hole houses the selfie camera, while a microscopic slit along the upper bezel hides the second speaker, which also doubles as the earpiece for calls. The lower part of the panel integrates an ultrasonic fingerprint reader. Faster and far less sensitive to moisture or dirty fingers than traditional optical sensors, it proved formidably effective throughout our testing period.

The multimedia experience is rounded off by the two stereo speakers. The sound offers a very satisfying overall volume with a surprising level of detail for such a slim chassis, making series binges and gaming sessions immersive without major distortion at high volume.

Performance and hardware: Dimensity 9500s power and XXL heat dissipation

To drive the Find X9s without sending the bill through the roof, Oppo turned to MediaTek and its Dimensity 9500s processor. This is a subtly reworked version from the Taiwanese chipmaker compared with the standard Dimensity 9500 found in the Find X9 Pro. The main difference lies in very slightly lowered clock speeds on the main cores, a strategic choice that favours energy efficiency and heat control.

To compensate for a compact format that naturally concentrates heat, Oppo has fitted an impressive passive cooling system: a huge vapour chamber covering 32,052.5 mm² of total dissipation surface. That is 21.6% more than the cooling system paired with the previous generation of chips.

Our review unit packs 12 GB of latest-generation LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB of UFS 4.1 flash storage (ultra-fast). The system also includes a virtual RAM option that can allocate up to 12 GB more taken from internal storage (which can be disabled or adjusted in 4 GB increments). It is with this maximum configuration that we put the device through our battery of synthetic benchmarks.

Real-world performance analysis

On raw numbers, the Oppo Find X9s and its Dimensity 9500s deliver overall performance slightly above that of the Dimensity 9400 that powered the older Oppo Find X8 Pro, the flagbearer of the previous generation.

During prolonged graphics stress tests (which push the processor to its limits for long minutes at a time), the phone shows rising thermals, with temperatures ranging between 37°C and 44°C. The highest loop score comes in at 2,269 points against 1,482 points for the lowest loop, which works out at a stability rate of 65.3%. For comparison, the older Dimensity 9400 in the Find X8 Pro ran a little cooler but was also less stable over time. The Find X9s’s large vapour chamber is therefore doing its job, smoothing out performance to avoid sudden frame rate drops.

Out in the field, those figures translate into an utterly fluid experience. Particularly 3D-hungry games such as Wuthering Waves or Call of Duty Mobile run perfectly smoothly at maximum detail levels, with no tedious tinkering in the menus. For productivity tasks, the Find X9s is a speed monster: browsing the web with dozens of tabs open at once happens without the slightest stutter, and editing 4K social videos in CapCut flies along.

Software and artificial intelligence: the ColorOS 16 experience and the Mind Pilot ecosystem

The device ships with Android 16, dressed in Oppo’s own ColorOS 16.0.7 skin. Oppo takes a sensible approach to software support at this price point, promising 4 years of major operating system (OS) updates and 5 years of security patches. The interface is highly customisable, aesthetically clean and particularly well optimised for the 120 Hz screen.

In 2026, artificial intelligence is an unavoidable selling point, and Oppo works it in through several key features. There are, of course, the now-classic tools developed in partnership with Google, such as Circle to Search and the Google Gemini assistant.

But Oppo’s real software exclusive is a tool called Mind Pilot. It is a unified interface (a “wrapper”) that lets you centralise and interact natively with the market’s main AI assistants: Gemini, Perplexity or GPT. The tool can suggest relevant “prompt” phrasings based on context and lets you save the full history of your interactions straight to your Oppo cloud account so you can access it from other devices.

The creative suite also includes AI-assisted photo editing tools:

• AI Eraser: removes unwanted objects or background bystanders from a photo with a single swipe.
• AI Recompose: intelligently reframes a scene by recreating the missing edges.
• AI Unblur & Reflection Removal: instantly corrects motion blur or removes stray reflections from a window in a shot.

These options already exist in similar forms elsewhere, but their software integration here is very slick and suffers no excessive waiting thanks to the built-in NPU.

Battery life and charging: monumental endurance from 7,025 mAh

This is unquestionably the area where the Oppo Find X9s springs its most memorable surprise. Normally, choosing a compact phone means sacrificing endurance, since there is no room for a big cell. Oppo brushes that assumption aside by fitting a gigantic 7,025 mAh silicon-carbon battery. This next-generation battery technology delivers far higher energy density than conventional lithium-ion cells, packing enormous capacity into a restricted physical volume.

In our automated PCMark endurance test, the Oppo Find X9s posted an impressive score of 25 hours of continuous battery life. In the real world, that translates into gargantuan stamina: the phone can take on two full days of normal use without needing a recharge. Even if you are an ultra-heavy user (long gaming sessions, tethering, video streaming over 4G/5G), you will finish your day with a comfortable safety margin. It slots straight in among the very best performers on the flagship market, all categories combined.

To fill it back up, the device supports 80W SuperVOOC wired fast charging. Using the official brick included in the box, expect around an hour to go from a completely flat battery to 100%.

Oppo also had the excellent idea of including Bypass Charging. In practice, when you are gaming or running a demanding app while the phone is plugged into the mains, the current bypasses the battery to power the processor (CPU/GPU) directly. That eliminates the major heat build-up caused by charging the cell at the same time and dramatically preserves the long-term life of the chemical components.

The only notable compromise in this section is the complete absence of wireless charging. A choice probably dictated by the slim chassis and the desire to keep the price in check.

Camera: Hasselblad colour science at work

On the photography side, Oppo continues its collaboration with legendary camera maker Hasselblad. The Find X9s sports a triple 50-megapixel camera array on the back that mirrors the architecture of the standard Find X9 almost point for point, with one sensor nuance.

• Main sensor: 50 MP built around a Sony LYT-700 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilisation (OIS). (For comparison, the regular Find X9 uses a slightly larger LYT-808 sensor with an f/1.6 aperture.)
• Ultra-wide sensor: 50 MP with an f/2.0 aperture, ideal for landscapes and architecture.
• Periscope telephoto: 50 MP with an f/2.6 aperture, offering 3x optical zoom and optical stabilisation (OIS), able to stretch all the way to 120x digital zoom.

The Hasselblad signature shows above all in the image processing and colour rendering. Against the current trend towards flattering but artificially oversaturated images, the Find X9s applies an aesthetic faithful to reality, favouring soft tones, realistic textures and excellent handling of the dynamics of blues and greens. Colour consistency from one sensor to another is remarkable, which is rare enough to be worth pointing out.

As for zoom, sharpness and detail stay flawless up to 6x hybrid zoom. Beyond that, and right up to the extremes of 120x digital zoom, the phone acquits itself very well in good daylight. We were able to test the precision of that zoom at indoor demo events: at 18x, the device captured fine text details hidden within complex lighting structures suspended from the ceiling with surprising clarity. In low light, however, shots beyond the 3x optical zoom tend to become visibly softer and smoothed over by the noise reduction algorithm.

On the video front, the Find X9s is highly versatile. It can shoot in 4K at 60 frames per second on all three rear sensors as well as on the 32 MP front camera (f/2.4 aperture). Video streams benefit from electronic stabilisation combined with highly effective OIS, ideal for short-form content creators (TikTok, Reels, Shorts) filming handheld on the move. Footage beyond 3x zoom (up to 16x in video) should nonetheless be reserved for static subjects or tripod work to avoid micro-judder.

Conclusion and verdict: is the Oppo Find X9s worth its weight in gold?

For anyone after a genuine premium phone experience without lugging around a brick, the Oppo Find X9s stands out as a first-rate option. It pulls off the feat of delivering simply herculean endurance — 25 hours in PCMark — thanks to its revolutionary silicon-carbon battery, while remaining remarkably slim in the hand. Its AMOLED screen is a treat for the eyes, and its camera setup, fine-tuned by Hasselblad, produces highly realistic images that will delight fans of authentic photography.

Granted, the “affordable flagship” positioning brings a few logical concessions: the Dimensity 9500s gets noticeably warm during extreme benchmarks, the Snap Key needs more software depth, and wireless charging has been skipped. Against fierce competition, it nonetheless effortlessly outclasses the majority of conventional mid-range phones with a level of finish and durability (IP69) from a far higher category.

Users looking for even brighter optics in low light or deeper optical zoom will need to turn to the brand’s Pro and Ultra models. But for the vast majority of users and mobile content creators, the Find X9s offers an extremely solid performance-to-price ratio.
