On the menu: a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 built on 2 nm, a video partnership with cinema camera maker ARRI, and a dual 200 MP camera setup. We will keep this page updated until the official announcement.

The news broke on the sidelines of a far more spectacular launch. At the Chinese unveiling of its Robot Phone — a handset whose camera sits on a robotic arm — Honor CEO Li Jian confirmed that the Honor Magic 9 series would officially debut on 28 September 2026 in Beijing. The brand immediately opened reservations on its Chinese online store, and released the first official image of the device.

This new generation, made up of at least three variants, marks an ambitious turning point for the brand. Between a major design break, the switch to 2 nm manufacturing and a strategic alliance with professional cinema giant ARRI, the range intends to shake up the ultra-high-end pecking order. In the meantime, the current generation is already available in our Honor smartphones section.

A « Pro Max » at Honor? That would be a first

Before we even talk specifications, the names deserve a pause. The date may be official, but the line-up is not: leaks point to a Magic 9, a Magic 9 Pro and a Magic 9 Pro Max. Yet Honor has never sold a « Pro Max ». The brand has always reserved other suffixes for its top tier: Ultra, Max, or RSR for its Porsche Design editions.

Only last year, the Magic 8 series was announced with four models: a compact format nicknamed Mini, the Magic 8, the Magic 8 Pro, and a 6.9-inch large format that leaks called Max or Ultra at the time. Never Pro Max.

So it is one of two things: either Honor is genuinely adding a tier to its range, or the name doing the rounds is still provisional. The detail matters, because it is precisely this third model that should concentrate the very best of the spec sheet. We will update this page as soon as the brand settles it.

Design: an off-centre camera island with cinema lines

After several generations faithful to the large centred circle on the back, Honor is making a decisive design change. The first official preview released by the manufacturer reveals a large circular camera module shifted into the top-left corner.

Reinforced metal frame with a brushed finish.

Slimmed-down antenna lines, seamlessly integrated into the edges.

ARRI logo placed at the centre of the camera island.

This aesthetic choice is not merely cosmetic: the back plate design draws directly on professional cinema cameras. It makes room for bulkier optics while giving your fingers a more natural resting place on the back of the phone when shooting in landscape.

That official image also delivers a clue nobody was expecting. The metal crown around the island carries a perfectly legible engraving:
200MP 1/1.4 OIS 1:2.6 ASPH.
That is, word for word, the periscope telephoto spec that leaks have been describing for weeks. Honor is therefore confirming part of its camera system itself, without having had to announce it.

ARRI partnership: professional-grade colour and video

The Honor Magic 9 series’ headline argument lies in its technical collaboration with German company ARRI, the absolute world reference in cinema cameras. Honor is looking to take a decisive step in mobile video, a field historically dominated by Apple.

One detail matters here: this alliance was not created for the occasion. Honor and ARRI had already sealed a global imaging partnership, announced well in advance. The Magic 9 would simply be the first consumer device to reap the benefits — which suggests others will follow.

The partnership goes beyond slapping on a logo: it should bring software features and colour science baked directly into the device.

ARRI LogC3 profile: it records video with a very wide dynamic range and neutral contrast. This flat format is ideal for creators who want to do professional colour grading in post without degrading the image.

ARRI Look & Cinema modes: they replicate the colour rendition and light handling typical of Hollywood cinema cameras, right at the moment of capture.

Dedicated imaging chip: the camera system would rely on a custom image signal processor (ISP) designed by Honor, to run these heavy algorithms in real time, with no lag and no overheating.

Photography: a 200 MP main sensor and 3-degree OIS

On the hardware side, leaks shared by Digital Chat Station point to top-tier specifications for the rear camera array:

200 MP main sensor (1/1.28-inch): with a bright f/1.57 aperture and optical stabilisation (OIS) extended to 3 degrees.

200 MP periscope telephoto (1/1.4-inch): with an f/2.6 aperture to preserve high sharpness at optical zoom and in low light.

A 3-degree optical stabilisation system on the main sensor would be a genuine technical step forward. Unlike conventional OIS, limited to 1.5 or 2 degrees of compensation, this reinforced stabilisation absorbs the jolts of walking and hand tremor. It promises very smooth video and longer exposures in night photography, without motion blur.

The jump over the current generation is spectacular: the Magic 8 Pro pairs a 50 MP main sensor with a 200 MP telephoto. Moving both to 200 MP means doubling down on the most closely scrutinised line of the spec sheet.

2 nm processor and a 6.8-inch flat LTPO display

Under the hood, the Honor Magic 9 would be among the very first smartphones on the market to run the next-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 platform — one source points directly at its Pro variant — built by TSMC on a 2 nm process. That would make the series one of the earliest Android flagships to enter the 2 nm era.

The expected gain goes beyond raw performance: 2 nm manufacturing also promises unprecedented power efficiency and markedly stronger on-device AI. Plenty to feed MagicOS 11, Honor’s new software layer, which should put the emphasis on exactly those more advanced AI interactions.

For the display, the series would adopt a flat 2.5D 6.8-inch panel at 1.5K resolution. Dropping heavily curved edges in favour of glass gently softened at the borders answers a strong user demand: eliminating accidental edge touches, while making it far easier to fit an effective screen protector.

The panel would use LTPO technology, varying the refresh rate according to what is on screen — and therefore saving battery on static text. Count on 120 Hz, or even 144 Hz depending on content: it has become the norm in this segment, and the Magic 8 already topped out at 120 Hz.

8,000 mAh battery life and dual biometric security

The spec sheet also reports very complete power and security capabilities:

High-capacity battery: specifications report a cell whose capacity starts with an 8, suggesting a battery approaching or reaching 8,000 mAh thanks to new silicon-carbon chemistries, paired with fast wireless charging.

Dual biometric security: the Magic 9 would combine 3D face recognition, via dedicated front-facing sensors, with a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint reader under the display.

Combining 3D face recognition with an ultrasonic sensor would deliver the highest level of security on the Android market: face unlock works instantly in complete darkness, while the ultrasonic reader stays accurate even with wet fingers.

Honor Magic 9 series: expected specifications

Display

Flat 2.5D, 6.8 inches, 1.5K LTPO, up to 120 or 144 Hz

Processor

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 / Pro, built by TSMC on 2 nm

Software

MagicOS 11, AI-focused

Main camera

200 MP, 1/1.28-inch, f/1.57, 3-degree OIS

Telephoto

200 MP periscope, 1/1.4-inch, f/2.6

Image processing

ARRI LogC3 profile, ARRI Look & Cinema modes, in-house imaging chip

Biometrics

3D face recognition + 3D ultrasonic fingerprint

Battery

Around 8,000 mAh, fast wireless charging

Expected models

Magic 9, Magic 9 Pro, and a third high-end model whose name is still uncertain

Unveiling

28 September 2026, Beijing (China) — official date

Honor Magic 9 price: what to expect

Honor has not communicated any pricing, and will not do so before the announcement. The previous generation does give a solid reference point, though: at its Chinese launch, the Magic 8 started at 4,499 yuan, roughly €585 in a 12 GB + 256 GB configuration, and the Magic 8 Pro at 5,699 yuan, around €740.

Two caveats, and they matter. First, a Chinese price never transposes as-is to Europe: taxes, warranty and positioning always push the figure up. Second, the dual 200 MP camera and 2 nm manufacturing are two expensive line items — the Magic 8’s price point has little chance of holding. We will refresh this section as soon as it is official.

Release date: what about outside China?

The Chinese date is now locked in: 28 September 2026, in Beijing, confirmed by the brand’s CEO. Honor is even running two or three weeks ahead of its usual timetable, since the Magic 8 was made official in mid-October 2025.

For the global market, expect the usual gap between the Chinese launch and the international version — six weeks to three months depending on the model, and not every model in a range makes the trip. As soon as the Magic 9 is available, you will find it in our Honor smartphones section.

Magic 9, Magic 9 Pro or the top model: which one to choose?

Honor Magic 9: the entry point into the premium range, with the new ARRI design, the flat display and the 2 nm chip.

Honor Magic 9 Pro: it pushes the photographic experience, with the full dual 200 MP setup, 3-degree OIS and the dedicated imaging chip.

The third model (Pro Max, Max or Ultra depending on the source): it would target the top of the spec sheet, with the most potent version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, extended memory options and the largest battery.

In short

With an unveiling now pinned to 28 September 2026, the Honor Magic 9 shapes up as one of the most strategic launches of the autumn. By combining ARRI’s cinematic know-how, 2 nm performance, a modern flat display and very generous battery life, Honor is making its ambitions clear against its direct rivals.

You will find the brand’s models on our store as soon as they are available.
