Oppo Reno 16: When Screen Size Tells Only Half the Story

Oppo has officially opened pre-orders in China for its new Reno 16 series, confirming an unveiling scheduled for May. While the global launch (and therefore the European one) is not expected until July, the first leaks already paint a picture of two smartphones built on radically different philosophies.

A clash of formats

The biggest surprise in this new line-up comes down to sheer size. Oppo has decided to play two very distinct cards:

  • The standard Reno 16: it takes the bold route of compactness with a screen measuring just 6.32 inches.
  • The Reno 16 Pro: it fully embraces its status as a multimedia giant with an imposing 6.78-inch LTPO OLED panel offering a 1.5K resolution. Both models are said to use flat displays with ultra-thin bezels.

Under the bonnet: endurance pushed to the extreme

The gap widens on the performance side too. The compact model (Reno 16) is tipped to run on the Dimensity 8500 processor. The Pro version, meanwhile, reportedly moves up a gear with the far more powerful Dimensity 9500s.

But the figure that really grabs attention is battery life. The Reno 16 Pro is said to pack a massive 7,000 mAh battery. Fitting in that kind of capacity says everything about Oppo’s determination to guarantee at least two full days of heavy use on this larger format.

Photography: breaking the very-high-resolution barrier

True to the Reno line’s reputation, the camera department promises to be a strong point. The Reno 16 Pro reportedly relies on a triple module headlined by a 200-megapixel main sensor. It is said to be backed by an ultra-wide and, above all, a periscope telephoto lens for zooming in without losing quality. The standard model should logically borrow from that architecture, potentially with the same resolutions but different sensors.

The whole package will run ColorOS 16.1 based on Android 16, with options going up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage on the Pro model (available in white, black, purple and green).

Conclusion

By offering a supercharged compact format on one side and a giant with a 7,000 mAh battery on the other, Oppo looks determined to cover absolutely every type of user. All that is left now is to wait until this summer to see the very promising Reno 16 range land in our store.
