While the latest chatter suggested the brand had permanently walked away from compact chassis, OnePlus appears to have had a change of heart. A major leak from tipster Digital Chat Station reveals that a brand new project is currently in development in the company’s labs. Hiding behind this still-mysterious model is said to be the future OnePlus 16T.
A miniature spec sheet with no compromises
This upcoming device is tipped to push back against the giant-phone trend by offering optimised handling, while refusing to give any ground on raw power.
The first internal evaluation details shared by the leak point to:
- A compact flat 6.3-inch screen with a very high refresh rate.
- The next-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 processor, which will be built on a cutting-edge 2 nm process.
The rest of the specifications has yet to be locked down, but the choice of this chip clearly signals the ambition to build a monster of fluidity and performance in a small footprint.
Aiming for the turn of 2026-2027
Development of this compact model is reportedly progressing entirely as planned. Going by the brand’s recent schedule – the OnePlus 15T having been unveiled last March – this new compact model should logically be made official during the first quarter of 2027 in its home market.
For the international and European market, some uncertainty remains over the naming. While the phone will make its debut as the 16T, it is not out of the question that it crosses borders a few months later under the name OnePlus 16s.
Conclusion
Even if this project still calls for several months of patience, the existence of this prototype proves that the “small” high-end phone segment still has plenty of life left in it. Pairing a 6.3-inch panel with a 2 nm architecture already shapes up as one of the most exciting configurations to watch for fans of compact devices.
